Job description
PRS Foundation is the leading charitable funder of new music and talent development. Since it was established in 2000, the Foundation's support has enabled countless music creators to pursue their craft and some of the UK’s incredible talent to achieve their full potential. Many of it's beneficiaries have gone on to become household names, taking the stage at the world’s biggest music festivals and winning awards at the likes of the Mercury Prize, BRITS and Ivors. Most importantly, they have made a positive contribution to one of the UK’s most vibrant and diverse creative industries, ensuring talent can develop and thrive, and removing barriers to success. PRS Foundation is incredibly proud of it's commitment to diversity, inclusion, equity and justice, which includes co-founding impactful initiatives such as Women Make Music, Keychange and more recently POWER UP.
Following the appointment of Nitin Sawhney CBE as the PRS Foundation’s first Patron, they are seeking a new Chair of the Board of Trustees. The new Chair will play a pivotal role working with organisational leaders and fellow trustees to map out long-term strategic plans and measure their progress and impact in the music industry. You will have a deep understanding of good governance practices and ensure the Board is operating effectively. You will foster a culture of constructive challenge, holding the executive to account and asking the right questions of others in the spirit of collaboration and improvement.
As well as leading the Board in strategic decision-making and supporting the PRS Foundation executive team, you will represent the Foundation externally, advocating for the charity’s work and the creators behind the success of music from the UK. You’ll work with stakeholders across the industry to ensure a sustainable model that recognises, nurtures and rewards its talent. And you’ll continue to raise the Foundation's profile, enhance visibility and strengthen influence within and beyond the industry. In addition to identifying and converting new revenue opportunities, your fundraising experience and ability to identify and secure diverse funding sources will be crucial in helping them expand their impact and support for UK music talent.
Your passion for music and supporting new talent will set you apart. You may already have a professional connection to the music industry, but you could also come from a different part of the creative sector. Significant and extensive experience in governance and leadership, particularly in the non-profit or creative sectors, will also be an essential element of your professional repertoire. We are keen to meet candidates who share a commitment to the music industry and to PRS Foundation's work. Your motivation to join them must match your ability to commit your time flexibly to this key leadership role. You can expect a substantial time commitment that extends beyond attending board meetings – we're looking for someone who can actively engage with the Foundation's work and stakeholders on a regular basis. In return, it’s a chance to make your mark in the most diverse and creative of industries, which is a lifelong passion for millions.
